Helpless leadership

I am a strong advocate for going the extra mile, hence my propensity for volunteering. I do this, to avoid my comfort zone and learn something new.
My latest Lesson: Helpless Leadership.
This becomes your reality when you take charge of a group of volunteers.
As gratifying as it can be, the responsibility often comes with no clout attached. .
The conundrum rears it’s ugly head when some team members stop pulling their weight. As a leader you have to step in, yet, everyone knows you have a bark but no bite.
Usually, you end up having to rely heavily on negotiation and other soft skills to get things done. This is such a humbling experience that I have now developed a new appreciation for Managers.
I once held a belief that Managers don’t work. I have changed.
Kudos to all the managers of the world! Keep up the good work!
