When it hurts

There has always been this notion that pain is bad; whether physical, emotional, psychological etc. While it is understandable because there is nothing remotely pleasant about discomfort no matter how little, pain is actually a good thing. It shows you are alive, your body is functioning as it should and above all that you are human.

Because you are a living, breathing, feeling being, you will feel pain. You cannot run away from it. It is a vital part of life’s experiences because it serves as an indicator and essential limiter just as the moon indicates night and fear stops people in their tracks. Pain is necessary.

Physical pain means your body functionality is alright. It shows you where the problem is. It gives you lessons on what not to do. It keeps you in a constant state of care because if not you would probably harm yourself without knowing it. It sometimes indicates growth/improvement for example when exercising or when teething (for children).

Non-tangible pain usually induced by an external circumstance shows you are human. It is probably the most unpleasant because at times you just do not understand why? Where? Or what is happening. However, that too is part of life.

The only thing you need to understand is that generally pain serves to show/teach you something about yourself and your environment and that most times it is not permanent. If it still hurts, you haven’t learned the lesson yet.
