DO YOU BELIEVE IN LUCK? (of chance and effort)

It’s the end of week five!!!!! Yaaaaaay!!!!! I’m so glad that this week went by without any glitches. And of course I’m happy that the weekend is here again. So all is well in theredduniverse. How are you fellow growers? I feel like I haven’t referred to you guys as such in such a long time. I kind of feel like I’ve missed you. 🙁 How’s the year going on your ends? Still on track with those resolutions? I hope so, I’ve got my fingers crossed for all of you. ;p
(I’m in a really cheerful mood can you tell?).
I just realized that I should have done the five week timestamp today instead of Wednesday, but oh well. Today I’m going to talk about luck. (Yes, the type you use to win the lottery, luck) Do you believe in luck? I don’t.
Most people consider it some sort of intrinsic attribute people are either born with or without. I personally don’t believe this, but if that was the case, I’d be one of those people who were born without it. (I’m not bitter.) The most I’ve ever won in any completion that didn’t require any actual input on my part is a t-shirt, which I couldn’t get anyway, because it was a random radio completion in another town and I couldn’t be bothered to pick up a t-shirt.
And get this, you guys. The main prize of that completion was a sound system, I think. (it’s been a while, and I was mad, so I can’t remember) And I had the best answer to it. But the thing was this. To win the main prize you had to call in on Friday though they had to pick a winner every day. But I didn’t know this. I figured they would pick a winner from among all the winners of each day, because helloooo, this was a fr*ggin sound system! So naturally I called on Thursday and won, only to realize that all I was going to get was a t-shirt. A TSHIRT!!!!
And the winner of the sound system, had the lamest answer. Like, my answer was light years better, and he (I believe it was a he) won! How? It wasn’t fair. (I’m NOT bitter!) But I’m never participating in a dumb radio competition ever again. I’ve never won anything in my life that I didn’t work for. (Draws and lottos….no) So what is my take away from this?
A quote I hear a while back sums it up best for me. (I don’t remember it accurately, so please are with me.) But I went something like
-Luck is when preparation meets opportunity and/or chance.
If you were prepared for something to happen, even if it was just a little, you’ll be thinking ‘what luck’ if it ever happens and everybody who wasn’t will be thinking ‘he/she is so lucky he/she had …… when this happened unlike the rest of us’. It’s true.
And the moral of this whole entire diatribe is this. Don’t wait on luck to take you places or get you things. Prepare yourself to win or get what you want and if its fair completion maybe you will, maybe you won’t (depending on whether someone else was more prepared than you… It happens.) But it’s better than sitting around waiting for things to fall in your lap.
Personally I have a pretty sure fire way for things to work out my way for me. I decide what I want, pray for it, and get down to working for it. As long as it’s nothing bad or sinful, 8.5 times out of 10, I’ll probably get it. If it just won’t materialize then it probably wasn’t meant to be. And if I still feel strongly about it later I could try again, because sometimes the answer is not necessarily no, it’s just wait. But that’s just me.
Anyway, have a great weekend and I’ll see you guys next post! 🙂
