WEIGHT LOSS IV

I quit. That routine I was on about last time I talked weight loss tanked like it was world war 3. Not that I’m surprised. I came to the startling realization (again. I do that a lot) that the reason I am having such problem with consistency, or rather WAS having a problem, (I’ve broken free people. Someone say break through!!!!!) Was because I had no consistency in the routine. I was giving myself too many options and because of this I couldn’t decide on what to keep doing daily. This added burden of having to make a decision from a plethora of choices was too heavy to bear. It literally erected a wall that meant I would probably quit after the third day.

You see, the thing about me is, I would much rather have ONE routine to do daily without ANY variations that’s not too long so that I can decide to do it at the drop of a hat, than a varied menu spanning the course of the week. I’m a creature of habit. All productiveness from my end is always as a result of habit. I put what I want to do into a routine. A routine I can gradually adjust over time to fit my evolving needs and goals. Changing this routine every day in adherence to a menu is too much unpredictability for the machine.

In hindsight, my failure from before was probably because:

1) It was too varied

 2) I was giving myself too many options

3) The routine was too long and consequently too taxing for me to keep it up for longer than a few days at a time. (And once I slumped, I’d be stuck there for days in the course of which all the good I had done would unravel.)

And the thing about this is even thought the work out was good while I did it, it fell into a slump too often to make the progress last. It became counterproductive. BUT, fellow growers, there is light at the end of this tunnel. I found the formula. I created the perfect routine.

Its short enough for me to actually look actually actively look for time to fit it into. Heck I do it immediately after I get home from school, WITHOUT FEELING BURNT OUT!!!! I’ve kept this up for 2 weeks already. Can you believe it? Can you sense my joy?

Secondly, it’s intense enough to feel like a work out. It’s a series of short measured repetitive exercises that are taxing without outright hurting. I feel the strain and tension of the exercise, but I do not feel like I’m going to die and instead of dreading it the next day I actually look forward to it.

Someone say Amen!

And so fellow growers, my advice to you today is, consistency is better than intensity. Find a good preferably short routine that is taxing enough to make you sweat every time. But ensure it doesn’t burn you out. And the best way to know the difference is to gauge how you feel afterwards. Do you feel happy and energized? Or ready to disintegrate and die. A good routine should feel like the former (I think that goes without saying)

And finally I can’t stress this point enough. You want to have consistency. Especially if you are the type that burns out easily. Those 3 times a week mega exercise routines work, but only for those who have the kind of mental and psychological fortitude to stick with it despite the pain. If you are like me, slow and steady wins the race. Be patient and focus on something you can do daily that won’t stress you out just thinking about it. (Remember, stress makes you retain weight.) And once you do, you’ll find even the talking-yourself-into-it part becomes easier because your body won’t feel like it being put through a meat grinder. Just remember to make it well rounded and intense enough to sweat, every time. You can always adjust it if you get too used to it.

Will you believe if I told you that after a while, as your body adapts to regular exercise, that you actually start craving it? Yeah….it’s true! Don’t give up guys, you can do it! 😀
