We all start at different times…
We all go through difficult situations in different vehicles at different instances…
Ideally there is no direct confrontation…
There are multiple stages where we might do better than others and vice versa…
Overtaking is allowed but not mandatory because the race is not against each other but against the time…
When being overtaken you should ideally not resist…
What matters is who gets to the goal fastest i.e.  who manoeuvres through the good the bad and the ugly cumulatively in all stages most efficiently and effectively….
