LETHARGY

I met my friend S today. It was totally by accident. I woke up late (2.30 pm. don’t judge me, I’m not a morning person) and flew out of bed with muscle pains from tossing and turning and just generally sleeping badly. Struggled to tidy up and get ready and left the house without eating something.
I got to school later than I even intended because I had errands to run for my dad, and sweating profusely regardless of the weather because I wore a long sleeved top for a change. I felt so off kilter from the moment I decided to leave the house with the other shoes I don’t wear because they put pressure on my big toes and little toes. (You would think I would have learned after last time. What’s up with my judgement today?)
I said hi to too many people. Said thanks and bye to too many people. (I’ve just been too nice today, even for me) My toes hurt, but I can’t do anything about it now and I’m groggy because I just ate a big lunch. I arrived ravenous at school and after I popped into the ladies to try and put some glue back on I made a bee line for the cafeteria.
I felt extra awkward today too. Kind of like I was under water. I swear I was hearing people talk like it was from a distance. All my favorite spots were taken and when I had just decided to settle I look across the hall and who do I see? S, having a very lively political event with the most awkward person imaginable (for me. Don’t ask. I won’t be talking about that particular thing for a while. Maybe in the moderate future when I’m over it).
So I went over and said hi, and sat down with them. My lunch came late and awkward left not too long after that and I was left still feeling so sluggish I could barely hold a conversation with S. Like all the liveliness I tried to inject into my interaction felt forced so I stopped, but it wasn’t weird. (That’s the great thing about close friends. You don’t even have to talk much to be comfortable around each other.)
I finished quickly, but still too late to do anything productive with my project today, and we came to the library. She doesn’t like where I sit because it is too bright (it has a lot of natural light) so we are sitting in separate places. Which is just fine by me. We tend to talk too much about nothing when we hang around each other. (Normally)
And now I’m writing this blog thinking at the same time how badly I want to sleep. I was going to try and track down my project supervisor today but there’s no way I’ll find him now. I’ll have to try again earlier tomorrow. I’m currently stuck in a weird state of limbo where I’m not exactly sure what to do with myself.
Anyone ever have days like this?
I don’t know you guys. See you next post? 🙂
