If you can’t beat them join them. Yes, if they say you’re a squashed potato with melon brains, and you feel deep in your heart that even if you try they won’t change their stand, start being a melon brain squashed potato. If you believe in your heart that carrying a load is more convenient for you barehanded than with a device but everyone thinks you are mad, do what they say. Use a device, that way you can all get device malfunctions and wallow in self-pity together. Live as someone else.
Joining people because you can’t beat them is giving up. It is the greatest form of betrayal to yourself. There is a difference between giving up and surrendering. When you give up, you yield control or possession in this case of your life to others. You lose. However, when you surrender you agree to disagree; basically, you stop fighting over it. You let them think what they think about you and what you choose to do with your life but you retain your-self. You win. Of course, some people surrender even their dreams, which is not how it’s supposed to be.
If you can’t beat them, Ignore them. Most of these people are not even stakeholders in your life or in what you want to do. While it is necessary to listen to others opinions and be open-minded to others beliefs and ways, you should not feel compelled to do as they say. You owe no one but God your life. Every other person is just like you. So take it with a pinch of salt and do what your heart tells you. While at it, take your time to determine those who care about you for you, not for your material things or your status or looks. Those you can, not just listen to but also try to understand where they come from in what they say.
In the end, all that matters is what you think and what you want. You may choose to do what you want and fail. That is okay. Learn the lesson and forget the details. The grave is the richest place on earth because it has people who had so much to give, so many dreams and visions about what they wanted to do and achieve but who lacked the strength to stand alone; they were too afraid so they gave up. They chose to do what the society felt they should.
Life is short. Therefore, it is better to do something and fail that not to and not know the outcome. In the end, it is not them but you who will feel the regret or joy. Life is YOUR story, write it.
