DISCOMFORT IS THE KEY

I read someplace, that if you are comfortable where you are, you’re probably not growing. We all love our comfort zones. I mean, routine is my thing. Its familiar, it’s measurable, it’s easy, and it’s comforting and relaxing. No self-respecting grower sniffs at the placement of the comfort zone on its pedestal. Its where it belongs. My comfort zone is an impenetrable fortress complete with a moat.

But you must leave it!

You must or you won’t grow. You would be a slab on a path destined to be whittled down steadily and gradually by the elements to nothing. We don’t want to stagnate. No matter what!

I was thinking recently that I have to put in the effort always have something to complain or grumble about. Because it means I’m pushing myself to do more. To be better at something. To improve at something that doesn’t come naturally to me. Exercise, blogging, my final project, my social media profile (because I decided recently that I’m probably going to need this when I start my business later this year. I’ll tell you the story behind this sudden goal in a later post) Yeah, I decided I want start a business this year. The goal is not to be glamourous or even successful or profitable. It just needs to exist. I can work on it over time, to grow. But this is a topic for another time.

That said, my point is this fellow growers. Knowing that much of why we don’t improve our bad habits is because they feel good and this in turn breeds complacency. It makes us settle for less. And all those bitter underachievers have this to thank for it. The solution for this is, as such, quite simple. Try to never be too comfortable.  Soon as you start getting comfortable, make sure you add something, or change something. Keep your psyche guessing. It means that you will be in a constant state of learning and adapting to new things. And this always makes you a richer individual. It doesn’t have to be big or drastic. Just small things at a time, (I’ve found in the long run, the small gradual changes are the best, anyway. they last longest and are the best absorbed) at a time to ensure that you’re constantly in some form of discomfort. Make it a habit

You never know, you might get so used to it, that you can’t be without it, even if you don’t like it. What do you think?
