The Anchor

What is your anchor. Everyone has dreams and goals. Even the seemingly directionless have something they aspire to be, do or have. So, then what is it that makes people doers and achievers of their dreams and goals. What is it that drives people to go out and get what they want and keep trying even when it seems like the odds are against them?
Giving up is always easier. Everybody hits roadblocks. There are three options when this happens.
- Turn back
- Go around
- Break the damn thing
Sadly, most people go for option 1. That’s because most people think that they can’t or that it just wasn’t meant to be, when it may be that they are meant to learn just how strong they are. Those who go for option two are the critical thinkers. They find alternatives to achieving what they wanted. That is not necessarily easier and it may take longer but it is better than giving up. Finally, you can choose to break the obstacle. Most times the obstacle is actually yourself because whether you think you can or can’t you are right.
The difference between those who choose option one and those who choose the latter two is the anchor. The anchor for most people is those who matter to them. It is that thing or person/people that you want to protect. For instance, to parents, it is their kids, to spouses it’s their significant others. For some it maybe their reputation though having someone or some people to fight for is a sturdier anchor.
When you know what you are fighting for, it makes it that much easier to keep fighting against the tide. Even when you don’t fight against it, you go above, below or beside it because giving up is not an option.
True strength comes not from just doing things for yourself but more so for others.
