Unhook Yourself

What is your center? Everyone consciously or subconsciously has a center. Your center is what drives your decision making. It is what determines why you do what you do the way you do it. There are many centres. Money, power, spouse, friends, work, church among many more. Above all these is the principles. When you base your everything on the former centres, you are abdicating your power to external sources and as such you live your life for their purpose. You see if you do not know what you want and establish guidelines you will be pulled into the vortex of other people’s desires and dreams.
Think of the former centers as chains attached to people. Everyone has them and they are ever growing and changing. All these things are byproducts of doing your work and their quality and value increases when you are passionate about what you do. When you go out searching for them, what you see are what belong to other people and just like bait on a hook, once you bite on to them, you will be drawn for the purpose of whomsoever has the rod. That is the sad reality. You will live out your life fulfilling someone else’s desires. In essence, you will be turning away from your own for what belongs to others and because of that you will never get satisfaction and contentment.
You came into this world as one and you will leave it in the same way. So why live your life for others? I am a firm believer that God created all of us for a purpose; that in this world there is a particular role you are to fulfill and which when you align yourself to miracles happen. What are some of the common features of most successful people? They failed? Yes. Severally? Yes. They finally ended up doing what they could and not what the world thought they should? Yes? They succeeded? Heavens YES!
The moment you wiggle your way free from the hook, is the moment you start to live. How do you do it? Simple. Identify your principles and let them be your guide. Principles keep you objective while the other centres keep you subjective. Principles show you the bigger picture, the others lock you in a box. Principles will earn you the favor of all those around you, while the others will please a few. Principles will release you of guilt, jealousy, anger and all negative emotions that arise from feelings of servitude replacing them with the desire to serve, while the former will drown you in them. Principles will grow you, the others will constrain you. Principles will never fluctuate or change (unless you decide to change the status quo), but the others are not in your control. Principles will set you free…
My principle is God. In Him I derive all my guidelines for life. I choose to love others as myself. To be compassionate and empathetic. To be brutal in kindness and honesty in my own way. Even in my weakness, I find no fault in myself because I am perfection in Christ and a work in progress. Gods work of art. What about you? What are your principles? What values and virtues do you want to leave in the memories of all you loved and all you met or indirectly influenced when you eventually leave this world? Those are what you should keep your mind on? If you ever have to compare/evaluate yourself/your actions/your words, then it is through those principles that you should do so; and you will find that the world will respond to you not the reverse.
So…What is your center?
