New Year Resolutions

Lets make a list. Don’t groan people. A major step in any plan to grow or make progress, and indeed an indispensable step, is to Make A Plan. Always. So step one to getting back on the horse should be:

Continue the good work.Rummage around the debris of the holiday rubble, (because you had a blast, of course, ;P. Get it?  ;P) for all those good habits you had started growing, but trampled over the holidays. Dust them off, replace the broken bits, polish it and pick up where you left off.

Make A Plan. Next is to make a list. In other words, a plan, for what you would like to achieve this year. A year is a long time and a lot can happen over the course. But its got wings. Snooze and it will fly right past you, just out of reach. Don’t get me wrong. Its never too late to try and grow, but opportunities can be wasted. And some just never come back.

It will be easier for you to identify an opportunity for yourself when you already know what you want and what and where you want to get. It will take work, but that’s the great thing about new years. You have a whole year to try and fail and try again. And even if by the end of the year you have not achieved it the way you wanted, at least you tried.

Believe me ( that saying about how hindsight is 20-20, is painfully true. Literally) you would rather have the option in hindsight of saying you tried and failed (even better of saying that you kept trying and never gave up), than saying and knowing that you never even tried.

Just do it. Third, do it. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t  even have to be good to begin with. Remember practice makes perfect. Very specific special people are born with the rare ability to do something perfectly on their first try. And even then, they may be good at that thing, but terrible at other stuff, And to get good at that other stuff they would also have to Practice. So don’t worry about getting it right on the first try. Be kind and understanding to yourself in regards to learning a new thing. Kind and Understanding but disciplined, because you cannot achieve betterment without consistency. If its a daily thing, do it every day. Sloppy some days and stellar on others, but everyday none the less.

It Okay to take rest days. Step four is the most pleasant to hear and carry out and that is this: Definitely give yourself rest days. Just as long as they are part of the plan so that you don’t fall into a slump. Slumps are counterproductive. Also in the same vein, don’t hesitate to treat yourself from time to time. Reward your progress and consistency here and there by doing small things.( I strongly suggest you save the excesses for the holidays) but allow yourself to feel good for your achievements no matter how small.(hehe, though I would suggest that you keep the rewards proportional to your achievements. You don’t want to reward yourself so well you undo the progress you made). It will give  you motivation to keep going.

And finally relax. Its never that serious. One thing I have learnt about life in my Prolific 24 years of existence, and specifically the 10 last of my faith (I found Jesus in high school) is that there is always a bigger picture and a larger plan. Gods plan. And sometimes the things you want were just not meant to be. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that in the end your dreams don’t matter. Just that maybe what you wanted was not good for you. It may even that God had a better plan for you and the road you took would have taken you completely off course.

Still you may try and do things your own way and by your own strength and mess up. Royally. And maybe not just once even. Many times. But even in those times when you think there is nothing left. that now you have really done it and you are finished, I want you to know that God wont give up on you. He never will, till the end. And when its too much and you are overwhelmed, just pray and commit it to God. Let go and let God. And don’t worry about it after that. It will work out. It always does. God wont let you down, and like i said in a previous post, when God wraps something up, It is Bad-ass!!! Trust me when I say nothing and nobody could have made things work out so seamlessly.

So don’t worry, and don’t stress.(remember, stress makes you retain weight and gain wrinkles)and most importantly, enjoy the ride. 🙂
