Taking the first step

Starting anything is always the hardest thing in the world. It’s like your first attempt at bungee jumping which I hear is absolutely terrifying!!! Personally I’ve thought of blogging for a while but somehow I can never turn my ideas into words. But if Donald Trump could make it as a president regardless of his inexperience at politics then surely I can write even if just to document my random musings.

Do not over or underestimate yourself. You can do anything as long as you set your mind to it. Most people fail because they do not believe they can do it. A defeatist attitude will not get you anywhere. Overestimating yourself is not necessarily a good thing either. The worst thing you could ever do is jump 100 floors down and expect to survive. Unless you are Spiderman or a cockroach you will die…the beauty of knowing yourself is than you can strategize on the best way to take that first step. Like taking a parachute down, it that simple.

I over estimated myself once, and took on a task that proved to be beyond me. I regretted it. Because I spent a lot of time and energy doing it. If I had taken a task that I was more capable of doing, and spent the same amount of time and energy, I would’ve enjoyed it a lot more and I’m sure I’d have aced it. So, definitely dream big, definitely believe you can do it but think before you act. Do something outside your comfort zone only if you have the means and time to learn it and do it right.

Do not compare or imitate others. You can do all things. Just do it your way. Just because someone somewhere can lift something bare handed doesn’t mean you should do it the same. You can always use a machine, its way better than hurting yourself and not lifting it anyway.

Before taking the first step, do not think about whether you can or cannot do it. Instead approach it from the ‘…How’ perspective. Do a SWOT analysis of yourself. You will be surprised how effective understanding your weaknesses and using your strengths as opposed to ‘forcing issues’ can be.  Auguste Comte once said know yourself to improve yourself…I agree. The question is do you?
