Opportunity

I have participated in several CSR projects and in some of cases have encountered persons who strongly disagree with the stated objectives.

One recent case  was in a project to construct computer labs in primary schools that cater to under privileged kids. The detractor’s argument was that, we should concentrate on providing for more pressing needs like school meals, uniforms and fees.

I believed however that this would amount to discrimination. If CSR Projects are run selectively based on the recipient’s economic parameters, then many opportunities will remain out of reach for the underprivileged.

In this case, my answer was, if in spite of their situation, the children were willing to go to school, then they should be given equal opportunities including a computer lab.
