Life is a dish

The other day, I was cooking alongside my sister. She was making Ugali (A maize meal made by stirring maize flour in boiling water until very stiff.) I stood beside her stirring Vegetables.

we started making fun of each other and I remember jokingly teasing her that I was able to stir my dish much faster than hers.

In reality of course there can be no comparison. The ingredients are different, the texture is different, the cooking sticks are different and the cooking times are different. Some dishes are easier to make than others.

Let’s draw a comparison to life.

I tend to compare  myself with others when their paths seem to parallel mine. Like my former classmates or colleagues and then grow disappointed with my own progress.

I just wanted to remind everyone in this new year, that we are all cooking a different dish with our lives.  So let’s not worry about how long it takes us to get cooked or what we will be like once done.

we should strive only to be the perfect forms of ourselves
