“Enkoba Enyatie”: Part 2

Why do I call and think this is an amazing experience? Because it simply cannot be anything else; How can it not be?

Picture this. In this region, the lightening and thunderbolts do not necessarily need swearing or invitation to strike. The thunderbolts may choose to hit the school block in the neighborhood here or far away with or without the students and teachers in there; a tall tree in the vicinity; someone’s livestock in the grazing fields; a homestead at the hilltop with or without its inhabitants or another on the hill slopes; an individual sheltering from the rain under a tree or, anywhere just like that. Just like that! Unpredictable random strikes.

While the thunder strikes may be random such as the one that this writer survived as a child with mild shock, others are reported to have hit the targets as per the vows! Just visit here during the rainy season. You may enjoy the spectacle or scatter in fright. This will help you understand why as a born and bred child of the region, I am convinced one has to be very brave and honest to swear by thunder in an environment such as this if guilty as accused.

These observations make me now understand why for those who are Christians the Bible tells us Jesus told the disciples in Mathew 5:33-37 “Do not swear by Heaven…earth…Jerusalem…. or your head…just say yes or no” (GNB). In Mathew 7:7 He goes on to also say” Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be open to you”. These are powerful statements by any measure.

In other words, by swearing one may actually be asking for what they have sworn by to happen. It may turn out to be more than one can chew.
