When I was younger we lived in a rural part of the country in a big compound with several Groundskeepers. They came in all shapes and sizes and among them was a true gem. (And not in a good way!)<\/p>\n
I will call him ZERO.<\/p>\n
Mr. ZERO, was a medium height, slender man-boy, when he joined the family. He seemed okay at first but then we started to notice things\u2026<\/p>\n
We had a lot of trees in the compound\u00a0among them two avocado trees. One of these, the one closer to the house, produced watery tasteless fruit, and Mom decided to have it cut down before it could spread its bad seed.<\/p>\n
In comes Mr. Zero who is assigned the task. He then did nothing for a few days and just when my mum started getting irritated, went out and chopped the avocado tree then\u00a0happily reported to mum. Feeling satisfied, My mum walked to the back yard to take a look. The tree was still there. Surprised, she went back to ZERO<\/strong> only to find out that he had gone and chopped the good avocado tree.<\/p>\n Was it a misunderstanding or Malice?<\/strong><\/p>\n A long while later, some neighbors complained about some of our trees littering their grounds and Mom decided to have the lower branches pruned. Once again, Mr. Zero was assigned. He was instructed to prune all the trees on the edge of the compound.<\/p>\n He did. In fact he went further and pruned every tree in the compound. Now, under normal circumstances this would be commendable, but in this case it was not\u2026..here is why.<\/p>\n We had a well in the compound with a manual water pump positioned between two umbrella trees for shelter. Of the work men around there was one tasked to operate the pump. Let\u2019s call him ONE. And YES you guessed it, ZERO<\/strong> deleted<\/span><\/strong> every branch that provide even a hint of shade to the pump. There was no known enmity between ONE<\/strong> and ZERO<\/strong> so once again we were stumped.<\/p>\n Was it a misunderstanding or Malice?<\/strong><\/p>\n Then came the door fiasco. For security, we had a great black Gate and the front door was secured by a heavy metal grill followed by a hardwood door. This were always locked by ONE in the evening after my parents got home.\u00a0 This one time, my dad instructed ZERO<\/strong> to do it because ONE<\/strong> was working on something else.<\/p>\n We settled in to a lovely evening waiting for supper. After supper, my dad bid us goodnight and headed for the stairs, which required him to go back towards the entrance hall. And there he found a wide open front door and Grill\u2026..And not just that, the gate was AJAR as well! At 10 pm at night in a neighborhood where we felt the need to have grills in front of the door!!!<\/p>\n Was it a misunderstanding or Malice?<\/strong><\/p>\n Here is the clincher, by the time my parents decided he had to go\u2026.they couldn\u2019t fire him because if he was a malicious person, he might seek revenge.
