I give up, I can\u2019t lead.<\/p>\n
Leadership is not for the faint of heart. Especially with no weapons in your arsenal, like a performance review, or the ability to fire someone<\/p>\n
At work, to enhance teamwork, we were grouped into random teams, and tasked with various challenges like sports tournaments etc.<\/p>\n
The winning team gets to go on a paid holiday overseas.<\/p>\n
I was nominated as the coach<\/strong> for my team and seem to have done a terrible job so far. Six months down the line, there is ZERO team cohesion and fluctuating commitment and I end up talking to myself most of the time on the group chat.<\/p>\n I have talked, begged, cajoled and threatened in an effort to elicit a reaction\u2026. Few bother to respond and fewer still volunteer for any tasks or volunteer Ideas.<\/p>\n Whenever I would try to organize a team meetings, the norm has been to receive, at the very last minute, excuses such as;<\/p>\n \u2018I am not in town.\u2019 <\/em><\/p>\n Of course you are not. Did you just discovered this, five minutes before the meeting?<\/em><\/p>\n Meanwhile, there is a team that, within hours of being formed, ordered matching T-Shirts and socks and had a team lunch. They have so far won both quarterly awards.<\/p>\n So either I am an incompetent leader, or I got the wrong mix of people.<\/p>\n Of course in MY assessment, it is the latter. I feel that I got too many old people with other things on their minds and very many introverts. Many disagree…<\/p>\n Either way, I know how to spot a sinking ship. I have decided to distance myself from the oncoming tragedy.<\/p>\n So I quit.<\/p>\n The ship will not sink with me at the helm.<\/strong><\/p>\n However, I am stuck in the team for the next couple of years, so my plan is to take my cue from the majority and behave exactly like them.<\/p>\n Good luck to the new coach<\/strong>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I give up, I can\u2019t lead.
