And as a result, my wonderful early rising start to the year has deteriorated to scarily close to where it was last year. It doesn’t help that my overactive imagination chooses to act up the moment I get the chance to catch up on it. Leaving the house at three in the afternoon. (I’m ashamed.)

I’m working on it, but it’s one thing to say so, but another thing entirely to follow through. Also I think I’ve hit a plateau in my blogging. This is because I keep hitting a wall when I try to think up what to write about. It’s like the well has run dry. I apologies in advance for whatever dry writing I may publish in the future, and maybe any I’ve already done so far. Is this writer’s block?

Anyhow, I wanted to write down a few useful tips for sleeping properly, for those of you fellow growers who may be dealing with similar sleep issues.

Try to go to sleep at the same time every day

If you train your body to power down at a specific time every day, eventually it will happen by itself. So estimate how much time you need and try to sleep at a time that will allow you your full rest.

Technology be gone!

Ok this may be a hard one. Most of us (me included) use our phones as alarms for the morning. But if you really can’t leave the phone alone, you might want to consider getting an alarm clock and turning your phone off. Better yet, leave it in the living room. Same goes for the TV and laptop.

Stay active during the day

Keep yourself busy during the day. Don’t allow yourself too many periods of relaxation and naps especially if you are having trouble sleeping at night. This will ensue you will be too exhausted not to sleep when night comes.

Try not to sleep in (even on the weekends <0> _ <0> )

I hate this one, because this is my guilty pleasure. My whole homebody schedule is centered on this wonderful activity. But apparently, oscillating here between weekdays and weekends disorients your system and you’ll never get a sleeping pattern down. And even if you do, it’ll take you a while. (Shucks)

Avoid caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and big meals at night

We take these things to stay awake and active during the day. Why would you take these when you need to sleep, hmm? <0_<0 (listen to me talk like I’m innocent.)

Find a good winding down routine

Read a book, take a bath, put out what you will wear the next day, listen to soft music or an audio book. Simple things that help your body relax and get into the lull, before you sleep.

Can’t fall asleep?

If your mid is too active then you can try this. Make relaxation your goal, not sleep. Think about it, when has saying ‘stop thinking and sleep’ to yourself ever worked. You can’t convince yourself to step once you get into this spiral. They thing to do here then is stop trying so hard and take deep breaths. Channel your thoughts to calmer ones all the while focusing on completely relaxing your body, starting with your limbs. You’ll drift off before you know it.

That’s it from me, fellow growers. I hope these help you out. I’ll be trying these out myself.
