I have the best parents in the world!!! I was thinking this and I suddenly had the urge to declare it for all to know. Because I feel it so deeply. And naturally you would wonder what brought this on, And in an attempt to think up what to say to that I immediately realized I was looking for reasons to justify my feelings. And that\u2019s got me thinking. Is it really necessary that I give you justification?<\/p>\n
I find it interesting that in the course of my reasoning and internal dialogue on this matter that many of the conclusions and points I \u00a0had off the top of my head leaned more in to the materialistic side. I.e., because they did this for me, or they bought me this or something of the sort and I was struck by how\u2026.shallow that is. By what standards do we weigh the people in our lives who are important to us? And in this instance, in my case, what makes my parents the best parents in the world, without a sliver of doubt? I mean, its not like its a competition where everybody else’s folks is automatically knocked down a rung.<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t get me wrong. I wouldn\u2019t dream of comparing. I will NOT presume to assume that everybody shares the same relationship with their parents that I do with mine. And also, I do not claim that it is perfect (were were all teenagers at some point. And nobody is perfect, but that’s natural. After all, we are human). So that is why I KNOW that I am NOT speaking for everyone here. \u00a0But I feel this way because \u2026because I feel in many ways they have been and will probably always be a compass for me in my life for, I don\u2019t know how to put it, the kind of person I am.<\/p>\n
I believe I\u2019m the kind of person I am now, because of the kind of parents God gave me. To me, my parents are like an ever present blanket, a safety net, a constant. They were hands on parents all through our childhoods and I believe it shaped the characters of me and my siblings in ways we can\u2019t help but muse about these days.And later, when I have my own kids, God willing of course, I’ll probably be the same kind of parent . \u00a0But I believe all parents play a big role in shaping the kind of people their kids grow into, so that\u2019s not new. But my point here is this.<\/p>\n
While, I could give you all kinds of shallow inadequate explanations why my folks top the list, I feel like the real depth and texture, the essence of the relationship would be lost in translation.\u00a0 So what can I say to this? I say, my parents are the best in the whole world, just because they are who they are. I don\u2019t need a reason to love them anymore than they do me. And I thank God for them every day.<\/p>\n
