The body lay dismembered on the road. My heart raced and my vision was blurry. There was a lot of blood. My knees shook. I couldn\u2019t move. My throat ran dry and despite the overwhelming desire to scream, I couldn\u2019t.\u00a0 I just stood there.<\/p>\n
\u201cMove\u2026run!\u201d I thought to myself. The sight of blood made me woozy. I could feel the warmth of my tears as they ran down my cheeks.<\/p>\n
The scream behind me startled me to my core. The sight of the bloody mess that had once been a person was the last thing I saw as darkness engulfed me.<\/p>\n
I woke with a start. My head throbbed. My heart wrung in pain as the vivid images of dismembered bodies poured into my vision. I was breathless.<\/p>\n
\u201cSam?\u201d the familiar voice rang in my ears, \u201cAre you alive? You\u2019ve been dead for an hour and a half you know\u201d<\/p>\n
I could feel the warmth of Anne\u2019s body against my own. I opened my eyes. It took a couple of painful seconds to get accustomed to the brightness.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo\u2026 it happened…?\u201d I asked. My throat was parched.<\/p>\n
