CHAPTER 6
The inspector was drunk. His cool composure had abandoned him. I felt my blood boil. How could he degrade himself like that?
“I lost my job…” he took shots of whiskey one after the other. He was pitiful.
“Let me take you home”, he was surprisingly compliant. Like a child, he followed me. We went to my house.
“I’m done for!” he slumped onto my bed.
“Inspector?” I started, “I love you”
He frowned. The creases and contortions on his face were so defined they looked as though they had been etched out. He got up, his fists clenched and before I knew it, he was upon me with kicks and blows. I was stunned. The anger in his eyes was the last thing I saw as I lost consciousness pinned down by his weight with his hands firmly squeezing my throat.
