LOVED LUST
As we walked in, the café felt unusually comforting. I usually don’t enjoy coffee joints. Too many people, tables too close to each other, everybody talking at the same time and a Smell of different types of strong beverages in the air. But today, today I was happy to anywhere as long as he was there with me.
He reads my mind, words I haven’t spoken. He feels my pain. My mother will not stop asking if I and him are dating. “No Mama, Will and I are good friends” I repeat. He had reserved a quite table at corner, with a view towards the city. I smile as he pulled the chair for me. He knows I love the view, so he stares at me for a while waiting for me to confess. “Say it!” He finally exclaims. “Ok, you know I love the view, thank you.” I smiled.
The waiter was polite, she served us both a mock tail as we joked around. After she left, he leaned forward, “I can’t stand the pain in your eyes. Don’t think your smile fools me for a second.” He whispered. And suddenly my eyes teared up as he reached for my cold hands on the table.
“Are you in Love or in Lust?” He asked.
“What’s the difference?” I asked.
“Love is giving, lust is taking.” He Clarified.
“Both.” I answered.
“I wanted to give him everything that I was, and take in everything that he was.” I added.
“You are confused..” He Concluded.
“I am not the one who is confused.” I added.
We sat in a pin drop silence. His stare I couldn’t read, he was very good with poker faces. I drifted off, my mind now focused on the art work in the room. God knows art can take me off anything. After a while, I was comfortable with the silence.
“Give your heart a break.” He interrupted.
“Try giving up for a change.” He added.
I didn’t respond, instead, my mind drifted back to the art work on the wall, I couldn’t get my mind off the piece I left at the bus station after my art class the other day….
“Let’s get out of here. I want to show you something..” he said as he waved for the waiter to bill.
